Andy Jacobs is not a very nice person...
So we had a garage sale this weekend. We are in the middle of moving...like RIGHT in the middle. Our current home is a disaster. Our new home is a disaster. I can't find anything. I have had a stomach bug that put me in bed for 5 days. I have realtors calling me 3-4 times per day wanting to come see our home. It makes me angry. Angry because they are getting a killer deal on a house we put our blood, sweat and tears into building...planning to raise our children here. We have developed relationships with all of our neighbors. We have loved it here. We got screwed by the economy. We don't want to move. We have to move. I decide to have a SECOND garage sale...hoping to get rid of the last few big items we don't need, because the new house is smaller. I stay up until 1:30 am setting up the garage sale Thursday night...I'm EXHAUSTED. I finally get a Craigslist ad posted...very descriptive ad, complete with pictures. I go to bed and realize that aside from mentioning that the garage sale is in Glen Haven subdivision, I have forgotten to post the address and the times of the sale. Not getting up to fix it now...TOO TIRED. Will fix it in the morning.
Next morning...wake up late...no time for shower...ugh. Rush to the computer and quickly EDIT my Craigslist posting to list the ADDRESS and TIMES!!!!! Yay...feel better. Realize that all of my signs have been moved to Lesli's garage with the boutique. Finish getting ready...make a quick trip to Lesli's...set GREAT signs out! One out at the entrance of Glen Haven...one on the corner in front of our house. Garage sale starts out really slow. I realize that because I set up the sale INSIDE the garage and kept my garage door shut until 9am when I opened, I eliminated the dealers who, like vultures, show up at 6am when you start your sale at 9am and fight over all the good stuff. TAKE THAT!!!!!! Almost give up...and then slowly begin to get a steady stream of people. By mid-afternoon I am SWAMPED with customers! YAY. By 5pm, I had sold a good portion of my good stuff...met a lot of really great people...and made a good chunk of change. SUCCESS!!!
This morning...I receive a Craigslist response from some guy named Andy Jacobs. Here is the e-mail sent by my friend ANDY JACOBS.
(Andy's) Post entitled: "Putting a street name on your Craigslist garage sale ad really works...
You are limiting your customer traffic by not being more specific. Glen Haven Subdivision does not show up on Google Maps as such. Hopefully your signage on River Road is better than your Craigslist ad."
Okay...I was already a little irritated at his tone based on solely the title of his e-mail. Probably would have let it go, until I read the last line of his post. Decided I maybe WOULDN'T let it go afterall. Someone really should tell Andy there was no need to be rude. Thus...my response to Andy...
(Shirley) "Wow. The sarcasm is MUCH appreciated. We are right in the throws of moving...and things have been a LITTLE crazy for us. However...we had GREAT signs out...and if you had looked, the next morning I edited my ad and it DID in fact have the street address and times. Not sure what your problem is, but the other 500 people figured it out. Had a GREAT sale...thanks!!!! :)"
And...as an afterthought..."OH...and next time you decide to be a jerk...you might want to send it under an alias name. Now I know...Andy Jacob is a jerk."
(Andy) "You may want to switch to decaf. Andy Jacob is not a jerk, Andy Jacob wanted to go to your garage sale. Andy Jacob took the time to look on google maps based on the info you provided. Andy Jacob drove the entire length of River Road and did not see your sign. Andy Jacob thanks you for your reply. Good luck with your move."
Hmmm...I get it. So Andy Jacobs was frustrated...I understand frustration. Frustration has been my middle name for a good part of this past year. But still slightly annoyed. Andy needs someone to share with him that sarcasm could be perceived as rude...might as well be me.
(Shirley) "Andy Jacobs needs to look up the word tact. There are appropriate ways to communicate...and there are inappropriate ways to communicate. You may not be a real-life jerk, but your response to my post was nothing short of rude. Rude=Jerk.
Andy Jacob sent me the rude message at 5:52 am...prior to having driven the entire length of River Road. You would find no signs on River Road, because Glen Haven is not off of River Road. Glen Haven happens to be off of Irving and NW Expressway...for future reference. Had you asked nicely yesterday morning, I most likely would have responded in kind.
Heading to Dutch Brothers now...for a REAL cup of coffee! :)
I truly am a nice person...just thought maybe someone should share with you that you get positive results with people much quicker sans sarcasm!!!
Have a great day."
I'm POSITIVE Andy and I are now friends! :)
